There was a very special day held at Klabb Ghannejja Maltin Inc. club which turned out to be a very memorable day to those who attended.  The co-ordinate of the day was Fredu Cachia known as Fredu “iz-Zebbugi”. With the cooperation of the Klabb’s committee Fredu combined the Ghana with a photo exhibition and guitar display. There were visibly about a hundred guitars hanging on the wall along the stage wall. The exhibition honoured the guitarists as well as the luthiers some of whom are not with us anymore. The Ghana was very suitable to the occasion and the ghannejja expressed their appreciation to such celebrations and asked through their singing for more such occasions.

The day started with an opening speech from the organiser Fredu Cachia who thanked the Klabb Ghannejja Maltin committee for helping him with the preparations. Then there was the first Ghana Spirtu Pront session. The great Lippu Gauci played the first hour. This was very special for the ghannejja and the audience who have not seen Lippu play since his self imposed retirement some three years ago.

The second act included makkjetta by Ray GATT. who sang a humorous piece penned by Fredu Cachia himself, who also played lead guitar (prim). As it was Anzac day in Australia, Ray followed by a more serious poem he wrote himself about The Anzacs and their heroic actions during two world wars.

It was the time for lunch were the people gathered Maltese food which the Lab put on the menu for the occasion. After lunch father Victor Farrugia blessed guitars and other related exhibits put on display at the club.

Reno Demicoli, an ANZ bank representative then delivered a speech he called “L-Ghannej Artist” The ghannej as an artist. This was followed by a performance by guitarist Vince Pulo who is a highly respected musician/teacher/composer in Melbourne.

All the ghannejja present then sang a gadanza (Cadenza) which wound up the Ghana spirtu pront section. George Aquilina then sang a poem which he wrote about Malta. The day finished around 5:00PM and a lot of fun was had by all. The audience and the ghannejja made it known that they would like to see more days like these.

This will be remembered as a unique celebration of Maltese Ghana and Prejjem at The Klabb Ghannejja Maltin. Fredu Cachia and the Klabb Ghannejja Maltin should be congratulated for their efforts and putting on a truly memorable day for Maltese traditional music “Ghana and Prejjem”.
